do they look more like 7 or 10.

I'd love some extra betas to play with! I remember using developer preview for a bit.
Just learning as you go is the best approach. Now Check those chipsets and get upgrading CPUs on old laptops, you might be in for a pleasant suprise.

To answer someone else's question, the beta builds of Windows 8 looked identical or close to similar to 7 until the Windows 8 developer preview officially released. So builds 7850-8056 were almost exactly like Windows 7.
