OS for new retro gaming PC?

Post by User » Tue Aug 22, 2017 10:31 am

I am looking for an OS for an old retro gaming PC but I don't know what OS to run on it. It can run OSes from Windows 98 to Windows 10.
Specs of the machine :
AMD Sempron 3300+ (64-Bit model).
1GB DDR Ram.
Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT And ATi Radeon 9700 Pro.
VIA Chipset.
120GB SATA Drive And 80GB IDE Drive.
CD/DVD Rom drive.

What games do you want to play on it then I could tell you what OS to put on it.

I suggest maybe using Windows XP 64-bit Edition, since I don't think the other ones could accept a 64-bit processor. Plus, it might fit well into the type of hardware you're using.

My Computer Specs:

Model: Acer Veriton X2631
CPU: Intel Core i5 (4440)
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4600
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
HDD: 2.6 TB (Partitions total)
OS: Windows 10 Pro
Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio

I think a list of games would be helpful as well.

Based off of the release dates of the parts of your build, I would recommend using Windows XP.
If I had a better idea of what software you would be using, than I might recommend something else.
Desktop build:
CPU Intel i5 3570K
GPU EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
RAM 8GB of Kingston HyperX
SSD 250GB Samsung 850 Evo
HDD Western Digital 1TB Black

I'd suggest XP 32-bit if he wanted to run something like GTA3
