XP and VMware = shuttering sounds

Post by FMecha » Sun Mar 05, 2017 2:31 pm

So, I managed to set up an Windows XP VM on VMware Player. However, after I installed VMware Tools, the sounds shutter/sound garbled. Anything I can do to fix this?

Usually the sound after the startup sound is okay. At least it is for me.

The shutdown and volume beep test also stutters (I got the correct term from someone on a Discord channel.).

Sometimes it did that for me but have you tried listening to music or something like that because if you do that it might be fine.

I get that problem as well on my XP VM, but it doesn't do that all the time. Something might be corrupt within the machine, at least to my knowledge.

Huh. I set up a Windows 2000/ME dual-boot VM and the Windows 2000 part has the same stuttering sound issue for some reason. :?

Edit: Video of my 2000/ME dual-boot VM, begins at 0:50 where the startup stuttering is noticeable on Win2000 part.

It happens for both my 2000 and XP VMs for some reason.

This has something to do with VMWare, or the version of Windows you are running as your host operating system. Windows 8 hosts with VMWare 12 had this problem majorly, but no longer with Windows 10 1903 and VMWare 15.5. However, there's a new catch, this problem now happens in WIndows Vista, and is not correccted by Windows Media Player like it was in XP.

I also have a sound error. Host machine runs Windows 10, VM runs XP Pro SP3 32-bit.
All sounds on XP are a bit choppy.
Can someone help?
