[CLOSED] Windows 9x 256-Colors
Hello, This is my first post! I have been wondering is there any way to get 256 colors on any Windows 9x Based System? I have tried using the Floppy with 256 colors and I get a error saying something about a .dll file. I am using VirtualBox.
UPDATE: I CAN NOT USE VMWARE! A 256-Color working Windows 95/98/ME installations would work very well! Preferrably a Virtual Hard Drive!
Thanks! -FlamingApple

From what I heard, I believe Windows 9x doesn't work that well on VirtualBox, but do make sure that your guest additions are installed and working properly for it to install graphics drivers to the Virtual Machine, if that is the not the case and all else fails, your best bet is either VMWare Player or VMWare Workstation or Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 for Windows 9x Operating Systems.

Yeah, I would prefer using VMWare on guest operating systems, since it's more efficient towards installing expansion packs such as VMware Tools.TheCanadianToast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2017 11:54 pmFrom what I heard, I believe Windows 9x doesn't work that well on VirtualBox, but do make sure that your guest additions are installed and working properly for it to install graphics drivers to the Virtual Machine, if that is the not the case and all else fails, your best bet is either VMWare Player or VMWare Workstation or Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 for Windows 9x Operating Systems.

Windows 9X isn't supported by Guest Additions. There are universal VBE drivers that can display true color, however.TheCanadianToast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2017 11:54 pmFrom what I heard, I believe Windows 9x doesn't work that well on VirtualBox, but do make sure that your guest additions are installed and working properly for it to install graphics drivers to the Virtual Machine, if that is the not the case and all else fails, your best bet is either VMWare Player or VMWare Workstation or Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 for Windows 9x Operating Systems.

True. It's always better if you have True Color on every OS. Even on Windows 95, NT 4.0, and 98, since it looks ugly with 256 color.MemeOS wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2017 1:32 amReally if you get Vmware tools working. dont go for 256 color. i got true color working!NewYorkEagle wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2017 12:08 amYeah, I would prefer using VMWare on guest operating systems, since it's more efficient towards installing expansion packs such as VMware Tools.TheCanadianToast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2017 11:54 pmFrom what I heard, I believe Windows 9x doesn't work that well on VirtualBox, but do make sure that your guest additions are installed and working properly for it to install graphics drivers to the Virtual Machine, if that is the not the case and all else fails, your best bet is either VMWare Player or VMWare Workstation or Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 for Windows 9x Operating Systems.

Thanks for the response! I use parallels as a alternative to virtualbox but cannot get Windows 95 or any 9x Windows systems to install. Do you know how to install these Windows 9x Windows?TheCanadianToast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2017 11:54 pmFrom what I heard, I believe Windows 9x doesn't work that well on VirtualBox, but do make sure that your guest additions are installed and working properly for it to install graphics drivers to the Virtual Machine, if that is the not the case and all else fails, your best bet is either VMWare Player or VMWare Workstation or Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 for Windows 9x Operating Systems.

As a person who never tested out virtual machines on a Macintosh computer (even for one that Mac OS X), I don't have that much luck for you. Maybe you could install Windows 7 or something, and then you could install VMWare on that OS. I think that's what other people did with some of their virtual machines.
