Windows Longhorn 3683 Media Center

Post by BetaTester954 » Sun Mar 03, 2019 4:07 am

Hi, I have been trying getting Media Center to officially work in Longhorn 3683.

It functions but has alot of bugs I have videos of it in action on YouTube.
I have found a way to use files from XP MCE 2002 to make this work.

Check this out

Was wondering if anybody else has got it to fully function before?

If I recall correctly, you have to use a certain product key during setup to install the Media Center Edition. I assume you've done so but with no luck yet?

I think I tried a Windows XP WMC 2002 Key last week and It said it was invalid, i plan to try some other 2002 WMC keys
and hope for the best.

Um, I figured it out. You can't install the MCE components by default. In your Longhorn 3683 machine, click Start>Conrtol Panel>Add or Remove Programs
Then, add the components called "Freestyle" (codename for longhorn MCE) and install them. After installing, the build may become unstable or crash on some computers. When prompted for the second disk, navigate to the D:\I386 directory of the iso/disk and click Open/OK.

You will also get a new bootscreen, which changes the word "Professional" to "Freestyle"

The required components are on the 3683 disc at

Code: Select all

D:\I386
. However, I found that it works fine with disc 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition SP1.
