Internal USB Port

Post by ShinyElGhosteo » Thu Feb 02, 2017 5:10 am

Does anyone know of a PCI card that adds a USB type a on the inside of the case so I can put the dongle from my keyboard and controller inside the computer? Doesn't have to be usb 3 or anything fancy.

I assumed since you mention USB3 as a possibility, if one you don't need, you meant PCI-E.

This has one port which you can then split into two.

If you meant PCI sans the E let me know.

I will however warn you that after trying to use peripheral receivers on internal ports, I found that the case and perhaps the electronics themselves interfered too much with the wireless signal, and I resorted to having dongles hanging out the back again.

Alright I think I found what I need though I do have another question. Normally I am pretty advanced and have built computers before but PCI slots still confuse me. Say I bought this card to install in my system.

https://www.amazon.com/Ports-Cards-Adap ... ds=pci+usb

Would that be compatible in a PCIE 16 slot, the one that a graphics card would normally go in? I don't have one in my system as I don't need one. If not, Is there any similar (and cheap haha) cards that will work in a PCI 1 slot. I dont need USB ports accessible from the outside. I just need one type A inside like this card has.
These are the slots I have. Not a lot of options.

or would something like this work (if it doesnt kill my PC)

PCI cards are not compatible with PCIe slots, so the first card you linked will not work in a PCI slots unless it's mislabeled.

Mini PCIe is similar enough to PCIe that an adapter should be sufficient to allow use. However I can't guarantee such adapters exist (they probably do). As to whether it will work out of the box, the answer is no. PCIe and Mini PCIe are at the least different sizes. Even if all the pins were exactly the same, they still wouldn't line up without an adapter as the dimensions are different.

Something like this would work beautifully in those smaller PICe slots you have and you could then buy an adapter for the dongle.

I know it''s not ideal, but best I can find of something that doesn't look too dodgy.
