Running FATE on Wine

Post by NaveekDarkroom » Tue Jan 31, 2017 1:24 am

So there's this old game called Fate (or FATE) http://store.steampowered.com/app/246840/ and I used to be able to get it to run on Wine on LXLE (and my inability to install LXLE is another story), but now it won't seem to run at all. It won't run on Windows 10 at all (which is a known issue) either. Before, I was able to use PlayOnLinux to install the Windows version of Steam and run the game from there fine, but now whenever it starts it just freezes on the first loading screen.

(I'm not trying to run a pirated copy)

Try installing ReactOS in a VM. It runes most Windows programs and even drivers and it's not Linux.

I am aware of ReactOS. I'll give it a shot.

If it doesn't work in wine it won't work on ReactOS aka. WineOS.

I have that game on Steam and my Windows XP VM, but I like the 2005 version better. The Steam version stinks without the console. But I think ReactOS works better, if it's more compatible with a lot of Windows applications.

Yeah, the console is fun, but now the Steam version is the only legitimate version I have access to. I tried running Steam in ReactOS but it didn't work.

Well I think it wouldn't work on irregular versions of operating systems, since it can only work on Mac OS X and Windows. But aside from that, I think the original version is more fun with the console.

So it seems this game doesn't seem to work on anything since I've tried XP, Wine and Windows 10 and Windows 7 and I didn't even get Steam to run on ReactOS. However, Torchlight runs on Wine acceptably well.

You probably just need to rock an older version of Wine if it worked before. From memory PoL has the ability to install different wine versions for different programs (different prefixes strictly speaking), as well as a few other Wine GUIs which also offer this feature. You can also do this manually.
